Last night Niklas Richardson, Kevin Roche and I (Mark Drew Blew Out with a cold, get well soon dude) meet with Sumi Lim the newly appointed Developer Relations Manager for EMEA. At long last it looks like us guys in Europe are going to get some real support from Adobe, like the old days of Allaire. Before any one asks there wasn't any revelations divulged to us, other the already wide known of Andrew Shorten coming back to the fold. Sumi had already been all over Europe talking to the other User Groups (of all the product range, Flex, Flash, ColdFusion etc) She wanted to put faces to names, and give the group a chance to give their thoughts for what Adobe could do to help us as developers and even as managers. I for one know how hard it is to get a good ColdFusion developer and I think it now comes down to the fact that we have to go for a developer that has the aptitude to learn, still easier said then done but I sure feel you will get the development team you want this way, and with technology always changing then you will need a team that can adapt to the ever changing world. Most decent developers (Developers mind not Programmers) will be looked after by a company that know how hard to come by a real good developer is and thus another reason why its so hard to recruit ColdFusion Developers. So the main thing that was apparent for the UKCFUG was a venue to hold the meeting, as no where wants to give away a room for free :) The second major thing was speakers, this seems to have tried up of late but the thinking now is that if we can get a jump start from Adobe to get one of the New Platform Evangelist's to come and speak. Which Sumi seems quite happy about. We did have a quick discussion on the freebies, which I think we can all agree on are when received are appreciated, of course developers love anything free :) but some were just not useful at all to most developers i.e. Sim Card Back Up,(Most of us techie will sync it with a PC/Mac Any Way) USB Phone Charger (I'm sure more and more of the new phones come with a USB Style charger/sync cable). The cool stuff like Nifty Pens, The Monitor Mirrors, T-Shirts, Water Bottle and Caps are cool but seems to get harder and harder to get hold of them. So come on guys you now have a channel through myself to get anything off your chest and I'll really try to get your thoughts over to the guys.
